5 Places to Move for People Who Really Need A Change Now
It doesn’t take much to see that the current state of the black community is in a crisis in America. Police brutality, income inequality, and racist politics only seem to be getting worse. With the future of the black community in America looking grim, sometimes the best option is just to get out! There are plenty of places to live in the world, and here are five that are known to be excellent destinations for black expats:
Dubai is a thriving urban paradise, perfect for anyone looking to start a new life. Rent is affordable, jobs are plentiful, and people of all colors and religions co-exist peacefully. As long as you’re okay with living in a primarily Muslim country, Dubai has endless appeal to expats.
4. Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a fast-paced melting pot of all kinds of cultures, so as an black American expat, you’ll fit right in. If you can afford the rising cost of living, you’ll experience great restaurants, exciting nightlife, and a vibrant local culture. The expat community is tight-knit and interconnected, and a recent celebration of black history month shows that African American expats are on the rise.
3. New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the most expat friendly countries in the world, with a lot of incentives to bring skilled and non-skilled workers to their beautiful shores. If you take the leap, you’ll enjoy some great wilderness and hiking trails, especially if you’re a Lord of the Rings fan. There are plenty of foreigners in New Zealand, but not a lot of Americans… yet!
2. Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a tropical paradise and an ideal location for black expats. The country is close to achieving its goal of universal education, healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and electricity, and has a very high standard of living. The climate ranges from lush and temperate to warm and tropical, and the people are all very welcoming and friendly. With its GDP on the rise, Costa Rica is an ideal country for black expats to move to.
A popular vacation destination for many, Thailand is also a great place for expats to live for cheap. Whether you are looking for the bustling city experience of Bangkok or the more pastoral Chiang Mai, Thailand is affordable and exciting. Black Americans are treated well, and finding a job is easy. The language barrier can be a bit tricky, but provided you are willing to put in the effort, living in Thailand can be incredibly rewarding.
Remember, no country is perfect, and especially in regards to race there will always be exceptions. No two expats experiences are the same, so keep an open mind when moving to a new place.
