He was arrested at the age of 16 in the spring of 2010 for stealing a backpack, which he insisted he did not do and that he had not committed a crime. He was never convicted of  a crime, and in 3 years never had a trial. He spent a large chunk of his life in jail for a trial that never happened, because his trial kept being delayed.

He spent 2 years of his life in solitary confinement because he attempted to end his life several times.

In February 2012 he ripped his bed-sheets into strips and tried to hang himself. In November 2013, only a few months after leaving Rikers, he again tried to kill himself, this time by hanging himself at home, he was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx close to his house.

He was trying to live a normal life, taking classes at the Bronx community college, but then he was hospitalized.

After he learned that someone was willing to pay his tuition for the next semester he became even more motivated and earned even better grades. He didn’t have any panic attacks during classes and rode his bicycle where he needed to go.

They recently released this footage from surveillance cameras,(video below) first of an officer grabbing him and throwing him on the ground with the help of 2 other officers handcuffing him, as he was trying to tell them that he hadn’t done anything. The second video is of the inmates hitting, kicking, and punching him, one of them even spit in his face, he tried to defend himself by punching back, then all of them were on him, hitting him brutally.

He had enough of this terrible situation, and he wanted everyone to know what really happened to him during the years he was in prison and after.

He didn’t tell anyone about meeting a famous politician (Rand Paul) or celebrities (Jay Z, Rosie O’Donnell).

He always had the fear that the police was following him, he told his mother he couldn’t take it anymore. He shared with his family the abuses that had been heaped upon him in prison. His mother found her youngest child dead, he hanged himself with a cord around his neck in the backyard.

So many terrible things happened to him, the pain and abuse he endured, he must have suffered from PTSD, it’s  heartbreaking. Just when he was learning to grow up and become a man, all of his choices and options were stripped from him, for a crime he didn’t commit.

  1. I think this was a very disappointing what this young man had to go through and yes they need to Change the system in jail and how they handle the Prisoners is disgusting what this Young man had to go through my Heart Breaks when learning what was done to him nothing but injustice.
but God sees Everything and nothing will go unpunished.

  2. This is sickening. They try to make you plea even if you’re innocent. They torture you. I’ve been locked up and have seen it first hand. Where are the protesters for this? The guards, the D.A., the judge, should all be held accountable for his death.

  3. You don’t stand a chance in this country with the legal system unless you are white or rich.
