PRESIDENT OBAMA JUST AUTHORIZED THE PENTAGON TO SEND HUNDREDS MORE TROOPS TO IRAQ
450 more troops are being send to Iraq, to join the fight against the Islamic state. The White House announced on Wednesday that President Barack Obama has authorized sending more force to recruit the city of Ramadi from the terrorist group ISIS. The decision was approved after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi requested it.
An addition of 450 military forces is on the way to join the 3,100 troops currently settled there on the front lines fighting. The troops will help train and advise the Iraqi forces in the Anbar province. ISIS conquered Ramadi (city of Iraqi) last month.
They also mentioned in the statement that new essential equipment and material would be delivered to Iraqi forces, including members of the Kurdish peshmerga, and tribal fighters. Although it didn’t go into details about what would be send to them to be exact, but it does include anti-tank rockets to counter suicide truck bombs, which is called ISIS’ weapon of choice. They didn’t give any estimate on when the Iraqi government will have Ramadi under their control.
Brett McGurk, a U.S. envoy to the counter-ISIS coalition explained, “When we’re fused with them and advising, we’re able to see better and buck up the ranks”. ISIS keeps on attacks by their new choice of weapon called suicide bombers, and they launch number of them to come at the Iraqi troops and make them panic.
Sen. Tim Kaine who’s been urging the congress to take action and permit the use of military force against ISIS “this is not going away anytime soon. It’s not going to be short. It’s not going to be easy,” Kaine said. “I think the more there is a need for U.S. assistance the more there ought to be a sense of urgency for doing an authorization. It’s just an indication if the involvement is widening to me that makes the need for an ISIS-specific authorization more apparent.”
